Introduction to the political, economic and social dynamics of Asia, from Siberia in the north to the Indian Ocean in the south, and from the Pacific Ocean in the east to the Hindu Kush in the west. The first part of the course examines Asia's modern political history (particularly the past half-century). The second part of the course focuses on contemporary issues, including the roles of the United States and sub-regional actors, such as the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Prerequisite: POL 10004 or POL 10500.
